Chevrolet Tahoe Summary Chevrolet Tahoe Specs
Model News
For 2023, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban carry over with minimal changes although both get Super Cruise as an available option on the Z71 and Premier Trims.
Model Highlights
Standard in both SUVs is a 5.3L EcoTec V8 engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque with best in class V8 highway fuel economy of 22 mpg. For those looking for more horsepower, an available 6.2L EcoTec V8 is available, producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. A diesel 3.0L Duramax six-cylinder engine is available for those looking for more torque and better fuel economy. All engines are now paired with a 10-speed transmission. Besides the Z71 trim which comes standard with four-wheel drive, all other trim levels are available as 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, providing impressive handling both on and off road. Chevrolet has also introduced the available Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension for superior handling of a large SUV. The latest Chevrolet platform iteration the brand new independent multilink rear suspension allows for improved ride quality, steering responsiveness and better overall driver control compared to previous generations. Inside, the Suburban and Tahoe continue to excel in ride quality as the previous-generation models had, but their interiors have been upgraded and their instrument panels gets a sharper, more modern and detailed look. The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models get a 10.2-inch touch-screen audio system that also conceals a hidden dash compartment. Chevy claims the center console compartment is large enough for a laptop or iPad. The base LS trim models include tri-zone automatic climate control, power windows, locks and mirrors, Rear Park Assist sensors, GM's OnStar concierge and convenience system (including six months of the Directions & Connections plan), Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio compatibility. Other standard features include power heated mirrors, Chevrolet Infotainment system, 18-inch alloy wheels and Rear Seat Reminder, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking and Tire Fill Alert. Moving up to the LT trim adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate, a heavy-duty locking rear differential, driver seat memory, 9-speaker Bose sound system. In the middle of the pack, the street inspired RST trim adds unique black exterior styling cues along with RST-specific seats and the larger 22-inch alloy wheels with wheel locks for extra protection. The popular off-road focused trim, the Z71 includes improved capability and styling. The more rugged looking fascia combines off-road aesthetics with off-road capability by improving the front approach angle. The Z71 comes with standard four-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case, Hill Descent Control, 20-inch alloy wheels, front skid plate and red tow hooks. The Premier gets loads of meaningful upgrades, including 20-inch wheels, keyless entry, upgraded trims, the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, heated and cooled front seats, rear heated bucket seats, power-folding second-row and third-row seats and Bose surround audio. The Premier trim comes loaded with safety, including front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, blind spot warning and rear collision warning. The High Country adds upgraded appearances cues and equipment. The High Country comes standard with the more powerful 6.2L V8 gas engine variant or the Duramax diesel engine option. Other features included in the High Country trim include 22-inch alloy wheels, Head-Up Display, HD Surround Vision and a Rear Camera Mirror. The roomier Suburban is the way to go for three rows of seating. The second row can be specified with either a 60/40-split bench seat or with dual bucket seats. A power-folding arrangement is available. The Suburban provides considerably easier entry to the third row, thanks to wider door openings. Comparable to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models of the past, they come with a plethora of optional equipment, features and packages.
Pros
The Suburban and Tahoe are by-far the best-selling models in their class, and they are tough rivals for the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia and Nissan Armada, among others. These two Chevy models are closely related in most ways, but the Suburban is 13 inches longer in wheelbase and 15 inches longer overall than the Tahoe. The larger dimensions result in a significantly larger third-row seat than in the Tahoe--as well as easier access to it, as well as more cargo space. Compared to other full-size SUVs, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban stand out for their ride quality and efficient engines. They are also very rugged and versatile, and can be outfitted for off-road toughness, tow ability and interior luxury as needed. Chevrolet claims that the Tahoe is the most fuel-efficient model in the full-size SUV class, thanks to tech such as direct injection and Dynamic Fuel Management system.
